I’d have to say that this is one of the most exciting reviews and giveaways that I’ve had the opportunity to share with you to date. Zip Line Gear supplied us with their 150 ft. Viper Deluxe Zip Line Kit for this review. Here’s the most exciting part – It’s a Zip Line Gear giveaway! While we extend many thanks to Zip Line Gear, this review would not have been possible without the help of my other half – Grant. He took some great photos, read all of the directions and installed our new zip line.
Grant is having a little fun as he adjusts the cable for the zip line. Here is his review.
The Review
The Zip Line kit was well packaged and came with easy to read and follow instructions. Additional instructions that were needed for the installation were found on the Zip Line Gear website. These were also well written and easy to follow. The hardware is very good quality.
The single biggest challenge is tightening the cable and then re-tightening it after height adjustments are made – and this is just with 150 ft. of cable. In Oregon, they must know their trees and cabling and be better equipped to install zip lines than us over here (MA). The height required at each end of the zip line is extreme. The highest point is ten feet high and I still need to adjust it higher because James is nearly hitting the ground. There is a lot more work involved to install a zip line than I anticipated and it’s certainly more difficult when you install it by yourself.
One of the toughest parts? Having an impatient seven year old pestering…..”Is it done yet? Is it done yet? Is it done yet?”
As of right now, the kids are getting on the zip line using a three-step stool. I installed the brake which keeps the kids from hitting the tree. The brake is key! With this set-up, the kids can use the zip line with little to no supervision.
I couldn’t imagine what’s involved in setting up a 300 foot zip line! I would recommend a cable puller for this size kit.
The 150 foot kit is perfect for us. No doubt about it – it’s great fun and the kids are going to have fun with it for years to come. They love it!
Here is our short video. As you can see, James is riding low. I am going to raise the cable even higher. It’s trial and error and “more art than science!”

Wow, this is a really cool video you made. Your back yard is perfect for it. ANd you found the great trees too. I remember we went ziplining somewhere in Belise, it was awfully expensive.
My kids would give up al the jumpy places if they had a zipline in their back yard. What a great product! It is also good for the kids work out – climbing on the tree and holding on. Just awesome!
My 2 teenage boys would LOVE to have this, we have 5 acres and can find a bunch of places to place this ! I trust Zip line gear, looks like a great product !

Oh forgot the most important entry the mandatory one- I would like this for my kids, because they’ve been through a lot and this would be a real treat. We’ve moved 3 times in the last 3 years. Leaving behind a huge pool and wooden swingset and friends at the first house. Leaving a cat and 2 dogs with family at the next move. The 3rd move was for the better because we moved from an apt to a house with a yard. So now to rebuild there friend base and what better way then to have the fun yard.

I would like to win this zipline for my entire household!!! My son and I always wanted to install one but haven’t had the time or funds to properly have it done. My daughter, the stunt devil would love to ride it(2yr old). My wife would love to use it as a clothes line. This Zip Line is so neat. My kids (including the biggest one, my hubby) would spend hours cruising the yard like Tarzan. We have been looking for something that the whole family can have fun with, and this just might be the ticket. My kids are getting too old for swingsets and such, but this looks like one that will entertain them for many years to come!

My FIL built a make-shift zipline in his backyard. It scares the bejeebers out of me! I’d love to give him a real one that I would feel comfortable letting my children play on.

Our whole neighborhood would enjoy a zip line, and we have a couple acres in back that slants downward. I think this area would be perfect for one. The only bad thing would be walking back up that hill!! I honestly doubt the kids would complain about it, though!

I want to win because I have fond memories of zip lines – from being tiny in the woods behind my grandparents house, to having a zip line come off the tree house my dad built years later. I want my step-children to have those memories as well!

I’ve traversed a few ropes courses and the zip line was my favorite part of each. I’d love to introduce the kinder to a zip line closer to the ground!
