Fooz Kids Review

Fooz Kids Happy Kids are Fooz Kids

Thank you to Fooz Kids for providing me with an All-In-One pack to review. The opinions I’ve expressed here are solely my own and represent my honest viewpoint.

What is Fooz Kids?

Fooz Kids is a pc application for parents that provides a secure online environment for your kids to access the Internet.  Parents download the application, set up their children’s accounts, and edit those accounts by either adding their own websites, videos, games or crafts, or filtering the existing lists of Fooz Kids websites.  (The existing lists are “mom approved” and are filtered by age group and sex.)

The children then log onto the Internet through the Fooz Kids icon. Fooz Kids has other features like email accounts for your kids, Fooz Kids places, for kids to set up a virtual room and Fooz Kids University, where kids can test their skills with interactive games and practice questions.

The Review

My kids are nine and seven and they rarely go on the Internet. I would say their use is about once or twice a month. So for me to set up Fooz Kids, it’s like I’m encouraging them to spend more time in front of a screen! But in reality, I know their Internet use will increase soon enough and Internet safety will be a big concern. So knowing what’s to come, I am glad I have this opportunity to try out Fooz Kids where my kids will have a safe place to explore some of their favorite (Mom approved!) websites.

I set up James account through the Fooz Kids dashboard. Here is what the dashboard looks like.

Fooz Kids Dashboard

From the Dashboard I clicked on My Channel and added two of his favorite websites – Lego and Cool Math for Kids. Here is what the dashboard looks like after adding those two websites and enabling them for him to browse.

Next, I took a look at the actually existing lists of websites within Fooz Kids. I filtered them by selecting “boy” and “age 8-11″. I filtered each list for website, videos, games and crafts.  The program is very intuitive and you can quickly get Fooz Kids up and running for your kids to explore.

So, for the first time in a long time, I let my kids go on my computer, unattended as I exercised and showered. I went over how to use the program with James and since he is already familiar with using a computer from tech class, he was off and running. Not once did I hear, “Mom I’m stuck” or “Mom what do I do now?” I thought that was great. They were able to use the program easily and they didn’t have to ask for help! I wasn’t interrupted, better yet, I was at ease knowing they weren’t going to be viewing something they shouldn’t, intentionally or not!

As I explored some of the other features with James, he commented he wanted to get a virtual pet. This is a forthcoming feature to Fooz Kids.  I’m not sure if he noticed the “Mall” where he can go and try out some clothes and accessories on his virtual self, but I thought that was cute.

Fooz Kids is an impressive program with many great features. Using this application will give me peace of mind when it comes to their online safety over the next few years as their computer use increases.  Later, I’ll be looking for a Fooz Kids for teenagers! UGGHH!

I’m like you and my kids don’t go on the computer much. However my oldest is 10 and in 5th grade and I know he’ll be using it more for school. It is so easy for kids to stumble onto something they shouldn’t by mistake. This program sounds like it would prevent that. I also like the fact that it comes pre-loaded with mom approved sites. I just may have to check into trying it out. Thanks for the review!
